Dear Mathematics Education Colleague:

For over 30 years the California Mathematics Council-South has held an Annual Scholarship and Inservice Grant Program to promote interest in mathematics and excellence in the teaching of mathematics for students and teachers in the CMC–S region.

We are all aware of the need to encourage young people to choose a career in mathematics education and one of the goals of our organization is to attract promising students to the field of mathematics education. We also strive to assist current teachers who are interested in improving the quality of mathematics instruction. Another goal is to aid teachers who are interested in teaching mathematics but need re-training.

One of the ways with which we hope to accomplish these goals is our scholarship and grant program. We have four categories of scholarships and grants:
  • Scholarships for students enrolled in an elementary education credential program.
  • Scholarships for students enrolled in a secondary education credential program.
  • Professional inservice grants for credentialed members of CMC–S.
  • Professional scholarships for the retraining of current teachers who are members of CMC–S.

Goto CMC-S Grant Application for the application downloads and additional information and requirements for each grant/scholarship category, as well as information on this year's winners.

Please assist us in spreading the word about this grant program to students and teachers in Southern California. Requests for more application packets or additional information should be sent to:
    Dr. Sid Kolpas, CMC-S Scholarships
    Glendale Community College Math Dept
    1500 N Verdugo Rd
    GLENDALE CA 91208-2894
    skolpas@glendale.edu

Please note that the due date for applications is January 31 of each year. The applicant must return five collated and stapled copies of the complete packet, including all forms, recommendations, and transcripts. Incomplete or altered applications will be disqualified. Please avoid abbreviations and acronyms.

Thank you for your cooperation in promoting this ongoing activity of CMC–South.
