The Lurie Center Elementary Teaching Award
|

The annual Lurie Center Elementary Teaching Award has been established
by the California Mathematics Council - South in memory of Lurie Center.
It
is awarded to an elementary classroom teacher (K-6) who has
demonstrated outstanding work with students of color, particularly work
that has encouraged students to improve their mathematical literacy.
Please
note that members of CMC-South may qualify for one or both of this
award or The Lurie Center Scholarship from the state CMC. Also note
the different eligibility criteria for these awards.
The recipient will receive:
- A plaque.
- One year complimentary CMC membership.
- Free fall conference registration (held in early November).
- A complimentary fall conference banquet ticket.
- One day substitute reimbursement to attend the fall conference.
- Up to $200 to reimburse associated costs of fall conference attendance, including the purchase of educational materials.
Criteria
- A full-time elementary teacher (K-6).
- An assignment that includes students of color.
- Demonstrated efforts inside and outside the classroom to
encourage students of color to pursue high academic standards and high
educational goals.
- Efforts inside and outside the classroom to provide students with mathematics enrichment.
- Participation in professional mathematics organizations and/or
participation in local, regional, statewide, or national mathematics
projects.
Lurie Center Award Background
The completed
Lurie Center South Application and 4 collated copies should be
postmarked no later than September 30 for the current year's
