The role that parents, guardians, and families play in student success in mathematics is as powerful as that of teachers! Parents personal experiences, attitudes, understandings, and misunderstandings of math, are often transferred to students. As your child's chief role model, you can do so much to assist and support your child's learning of mathematics in school. We want to help!

The purpose of the For Families section of the CMC web site is to assist parents, guardians, and families in supporting student learning in MATHEMATICS. On these pages you will find articles and activities for download that offer practical advice and information for helping pre-school through high school students.

If you are a parent leader at your school, we encourage the use and distribution of these articles and activities in school newsletters and other publications for parents and families.

A great place to start is Math at Home, a short booklet published by the Sonoma County Office of Education. This document, written for parents and guardians, presents straightforward information, suggestions, and useful resources for those who wish to better understand the importance of mathematics and the role they can play in their children learning this critical subject.

We hope this new section of the CMC web site will prove useful to you as parents helping students see the beauty and fascination of the mathematics, a subject that can be learned and appreciated by ALL.

Please check back periodically for new articles and activities that will be posted on the CMC For Families web pages.
