In accordance with the CMC Mission Statement, the purpose of OUTREACH is "communicating with educators, parents, the public, and legislative bodies concerning issues related to teaching rigorous, challenging mathematics."
2008-2009 Activities
Established a collaborative process with the California Department of Education and the California Science Teachers Association to select nominees for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. www.paemst.org/
Familiarized CMC members with the California Space Education & Workforce Institute?s mission to inspire parents, educators, and students to engage in California-based education and to attract, integrate and retain a robust California space workforce. http://www.csewi.org/pace-related
Created What Can CMC Do for YOU? (a DVD) to introduce CMC to selected audiences.
Hosted a New Teacher Luncheon at the 2008 and 2009 CMC-S Palm Springs Conference to:
1. Acquaint New Teachers with the benefits of CMC membership
2. Learn how to better meet the needs of our new teachers.
Collaborated with Central Valley Financial Initiative to provide mathematical activities for elementary students during a Financial Literacy training session for parents.
Provided a presentation to the Fresno Fig Garden Women?s Club about the initiative Bank on California.
Collaborated with Business, Science, Mathematics and Related Technology for Education (BSMARTE) members dedicated to working with policy makers to improve instruction in mathematics, science and the use of technology to promote learning.
Committee representatives attended the 2009 STEMCAP Forum and staffed a CMC Exhibit Table to promote CMC's interest in STEM initiatives.
