RSBCMTA January Dinner Meeting

Put Life Into Algebra

Guest Presenter: Bruce Grip, Chaffey HS District

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Many algebra students ask, "Why do I need to know this?" Answer their questions with a meaningful approach to teaching the essential concepts and skills of algebra. Motivate and engage students by putting life into algebra. Use real-life situations to introduce students to functions, equations, slope, intercepts, systems of equations, integer operations and many more standards-based algebra skills.

Participants will experience activities to use with students currently taking an algebra class or to prepare students for algebra. The workshop is appropriate for teachers of students in grades sixth through eleven and easily adaptable for younger students.

Don’t miss this opportunity to network with other teachers of mathematics in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Invite parents, administrators, pre-service teachers or another teacher from your site. RSBCMTA October Dinner Meeting
Ready For Math? Diagnostic Testing That Helps
Guest Presenter: Roberto Soto
Math/Science Intervention Program Specialist

Tuesday, October 6, 2009
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

The Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) is a statewide project that develops, distributes, scores, and reports the results of tests that measure student readiness for mathematics courses ranging from Prealgebra to Calculus.  The MDTP diagnoses a student's mathematical strengths and weaknesses and thus helps students and teachers focus on areas needing review to increase the chance of success in mathematics.

During this presentation we will discuss the format of the test and scoring reports, how to use results to inform instruction, and how SBCUSD is using the MDTP as an instrument that helps identify students that need intervention.  In addition we will discuss the new partnership that MDTP has formed with Daskala, an on-line information service, to administer exams on screen and immediately retrieve the diagnostic reports.  This new format allows teachers to instantly view each section of the MDTP reports in a way that is dynamic and informative.
