CDE STEM Information

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is used to identify individual subjects, a stand alone course, a sequence of courses, activities involving any of the four areas, an interconnected or integrated program of study, or a STEM-related course. This page and the links on it clarify what STEM represents in kindergarten through grade twelve education.

California Council on Science and Technology 

CCST is a nonpartisan, impartial, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation established via Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR 162)  in 1988 by a unanimous vote of the California Legislature. It is designed to offer expert advice to the state government and to recommend solutions to science and technology-related policy issues. CCST is governed by a Board of Directors composed of representatives from its sponsoring academic institutions, from the corporate and business community, as well as from the philanthropic community.

 

 

California Teacher Advisory Council (Cal TAC)

Cal TAC's goals are to disseminate public policy information from the state level to teachers, hold forums with members of the business community and provide feedback to and from the National Academies Teacher Advisory Council. Cal TAC members integrate their 'wisdom of practice' and contribute a valuable perspective to the California Council on Science and Technology education research and projects, such as the Critical Path Analysis of Science and Math Teachers.

California STEM Learning Network

The California STEM Learning Network (CSLNet) is a non-profit organization working to catalyze innovation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teaching and learning in the State of California. CSLNet, in collaboration with state and regional partners, champions policies and practices that will rapidly scale STEM education innovation and support educators in preparing students for success in postsecondary education and work, particularly those students who have historically been underserved.
