The California Mathematics Council (CMC) believes that all students have the capacity to become mathematically competent and confident when provided a rigorous and challenging mathematical program supported by high expectations.

Our Mission

The California Mathematics Council is committed to:

  • promoting professional activities that will ensure continual improvement towards excellence in the teaching of mathematics;
  • communicating with educators, parents, the public, and legislative bodies concerning issues related to teaching rigorous, challenging mathematics; and
  • increasing the diversity of membership of the California Mathematics Council and the diversity of leadership in mathematics education at the local, state, and national levels.

The Benefits of Membership

Membership in the California Mathematics Council entitles you to our nationally renowned quarterly journal, the ComMuniCator, advance notice of our conferences, occasional documents published by one of our committees, and involvement in the decisions of the council. It also helps us give you a voice with those who effect public and private education in California, the United States, and the world. California members are automatically assigned a Section Membership based on their mailing address. Please join your 6,000 fellow educators and parents from California and across the nation as well as Canada and other foreign countries in making all this possible.

  • MaThink Mini Conference: Standards for Mathematical Practice, February 22, Riverside County Office of Education. 
    Deepen your knowledge of California Standards, and learn how they will affect learning and teaching in the next few years. We will provide active sessions that will help make this information personal and applicable to your classroom.

  • Orange County Math Council (OCMC) Symposium from 4:30 - 8:00 PM on February 24, 2020 at Pioneer Middle School, Tustin  Registration for the very popular OCMC Symposium is now open. The title of this year’s keynote is “There’s Greatness in You!” presented by Laila Nur (follow Laila at @mslailanur).The registration cost of $20 (only $10 for pre-service and BTSA teachers, as well as those who attended the 2019 OCMC Math Tech Night) includes dinner, keynote presentation, breakout sessions, raffle prizes, and 2020 OCMC membership! Math educators and administrators from all grade levels are welcome.

  • Greater San Diego Math Council (GSDMC) Annual Mathematics Conference, February 29, 2020 at Palomar College 2020 Vision: Bringing Equity into Focus. Keynote speaker is Jo Boaler.
