The California Mathematics Council, working towards excellence in mathematics education, and the Department of Education request your support in recognizing outstanding student achievement in mathematics. This outstanding-student recognition gives support to our mission, which states that CMC believes all students have the capacity to become mathematically competent and confident when provided a rigorous and challenging mathematical program supported by high expectations.

The CMC certificate to be awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellence in mathematics. The student need not be a senior. The criteria for selection may include but is not limited to:

  • Unusual and sustained interest in mathematics
  • Demonstration of creativity in the application of mathematical concepts
  • Outstanding achievement in mathematics course work
  • Excellence as demonstrated in competitions

The actual method of selection is left to the professional judgment of your mathematics department. It is hoped that the criteria used in the selection will also be applied to similar situations in the future.

When awarding the student, please include why the student received the award.
